Chocolate Chip Scones

Chocolate Chip Scones

Today I decided to make something a little out of the box, and decided on scones! Scones are perfect-sweet, but not TOO sweet. They're flaky, a little buttery, and oh-so-delicious.

Wanna know how to make them?

Here's what you'll need:
2 cups unsifted flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup buttermilk or milk
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Recipe
1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
2. Spray a cookie/baking sheet with cooking oil or grease with butter.
3. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
4. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender till the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
5. In a small bowl, combine the milk, egg, and vanilla. Stir a little so the ingredients are just one color.
6. Add the wet ingredients into the dry and add in the chocolate chips. If you like a lot of chocolate chips like I do, add 1/4-1/2 cup more chocolate chips. Mix with a fork or your hands until the mixture clings and resembles a soft dough (will look like thick cookie dough).
7. Flour a surface like your counter and place the dough onto it. With a floured rolling pin, roll the dough into a 6-7 inch circle, or about the length of a hand.
8. Cut the dough into desired shapes, or simply into a few wedges.
9. Place the dough on the greased baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, checking doneness occasionally. (makes about 8 small scones)

Let the scones cool for a few minutes before serving warm. Yum, enjoy!

I hope you make these delicious scones.. They're so easy and simple to make! If you are making these for a family breakfast or something similar, I'd advise doubling the recipe.

Have a great day!

Semi-Dramatic Makeup (Great for school or the mall!)

Semi-Dramatic Makeup

Easy-- winged eyeliner, light eyeshadow, blush, and light lipcolor.

This is a look you can literally wear anywhere- school, work, or out
with friends! "The limit does not exist." Haha, get my reference?
If you do, wear pink this Wednesday, and take a picture! Post it
on your Instagram if you have one to #thelifestyleleafpinkwednesday !

Here's me before I put makeup on. Keep in mind, I believe that everyone is beautiful, and doesn't need makeup, but I think that a touch of makeup can bring out the beauty that you have! I also go out very often with no makeup on.  I think that makeup isn't supposed to be for caking on to cover up yourself, but instead to emphasise your beautiful features.

Anyways, I'll get off the soapbox, and show you the makeup look I love.

First, choose a fairly neutral color that enhances your eye color. My eyes are always changing, but I'd say they're grayish/bluish/greenish. Haha, if that explains anything. I typically use a nude, shimmery eyeshadow for everyday makeup. Apply as much eyeshadow as you'd like, but if you apply above the lid up to your eyebrow, be sure not to apply too much- you could look like a clown! Next, use your pencil, gel, or liquid eyeliner (I prefer liquid for a precise line that won't smudge) to draw a line along the base of your eyelashes on your top row of eyelashes. This takes a lot of practice, but it's pretty easy to master after a bit! (If you'd like me to make a post just about applying eyeliner with more detail, let me know in the comments below!)

As you can tell, these lines aren't perfect. But once I open my eyes, you won't even be able to see the imperfections! To create a wing, simply continue the line you're making-upward in a slightly angled direction. You may want to open both of your eyes as you go along to make sure you like the wing you're making.

Next, apply your mascara. I like to apply mascara on the top of my upper eyelashes before the underneath, to make my eyelashes look fuller. If you like your eyelashes to look full, add a couple more layers of mascara. I use a heavier mascara for my top lashes and a thinner one for my bottom lashes, because I don't want my bottom lashes to look too enhanced. So apply bottom lash mascara if you'd like.  Now open your eyes, and take a look! Adjust any small imperfections, and your eyes are ready!

(Sorry for my weird facial expressions-haha)

And now, the easiest part; the home stretch!

Next, apply your blush. To make sure you're enhancing the right areas of your cheekbones, smile a closed-mouth smile and apply blush to where your facial muscles get a little puffy (basically diagonally below your eyes). Apply as little or as much blush as you'd like. I like blush, because it gives your face a cheery, healthy lift.

Lastly, apply your lipstick. Fill in the colored skin on your lips, being careful not to over-outline. I like this subtle pink-it's not too red, but is still noticable.

And you're done!

Now you can go wherever you want in confidence of great quality makeup, without feeling like you have 6 pounds of it on! :)

Throwback- Valentine's Day Cupcakes

Since I've just gotten my blog started, I thought I'd share one of my favorite recipes. Last month for Valentine's Day, I made these cupcakes, and everyone loved them! I made three entire batches of them, and I almost had to make extra frosting every time because I couldn't keep my spoon out of the bowl!

"A balanced diet is having a cupcake in each hand."

Here's the recipe for these irresistible cupcakes!

Cake:
2.5 cups of flour
1.5 cups of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of baking soda
2 tablespoons of cocoa
1.5 cups of oil
1 cup of buttermilk*
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of vinegar
1 teaspoon of red gel food coloring (or another color if you prefer-get creative!)
2 teaspoons of vanilla

Frosting:
2 eight-ounce packages of cream cheese, softened (I prefer brand name over generic because of texture)
1 stick of butter, softened (eight tablespoons)
2 cups of powdered sugar (confectioner's sugar)
1 teaspoon of vanilla
Milk to taste/texture

*If you don't have any buttermilk on hand, pour 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice into a 1-cup measure and fill the rest of the cup with milk. Let the milk sit for at least 5 minutes, and your milk mixture will work just as well as buttermilk!

Recipe:
Cake-
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2.  In a large bowl, combine and whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and cocoa. Make sure that all the ingredients are well combined and mixed.
3. In a separate bowl, combine the oil, buttermilk, eggs, vinegar, vanilla, and food coloring.
4. Using a mixer, add the dry mixture 1/3 cup at a time to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
5. Fill cupcake liners 2/3 full with batter.
6. Bake the cupcakes for 20-30 minutes, checking for done-ness at 15 minutes. The cupcakes are done when a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the cupcake or when the cake feels springy if you lightly tap it with your finger.
7. Cool until the cupcakes seem cool enough to frost- at least 20 minutes.

Frosting-
1. Put the softened cream cheese into a bowl and mix it with an electronic mixer on high until it's very creamy and smooth.
2. Add the softened butter, and mix on a medium-high setting until it seems well combined.
3. Next, sift in the powdered sugar and mix until the powdered sugar until it's entirely incorporated.
4. Lastly, add the vanilla and beat well to ensure that all ingredients are well mixed.
5. If your frosting seems too thick or dry, add a spoonful of milk at a time to get the texture you're hoping for.
6. Frost your cupcakes however you'd like- in a piping bag, or simply just with a butter knife.
7. Add sprinkles or whatever decorations you want! :) I like to add decorations to my desserts, and for these cupcakes, decided to make them a little bit fancy. Making the edible red chocolate decorations is easy and fun! Read below if you'd like to know how.

Edible Red Chocolate Cupcake Toppers:
Ingredients:
Wilton Candy Melts (color of your choice)
1. Take your desired color and amount of candy melts and put them into a microwave-safe squeeze bottle like this Wilton Decorating Squeeze Bottle. Microwave the bottle in 30-second intervals. Check if the candy is fully melted, shake the bottle, and microwave longer if needed. Repeat this process until the chocolates are fully melted, but be careful to NOT over-microwave the melts. They will burn and taste bad!
2. Set out some waxed paper on a could counter or surface and pipe shapes, words, or other designs onto the waxed paper. Allow the candy melts to cool completely-they will become a solid, and gently peel the design off of the paper.
3. Place the chocolate decoration on the cupcake, and you're done!

Enjoy your delicious cupcakes-but I will warn you--they're hard to resist! :)

Have a wonderful and blessed day, everyone!
